Southland Academy Anatomy classes teamed up with the American Red Cross on March 9th, 2020.  At this drive 46 units of blood were donated.  One unit alone could save up to 3 lives. The Red Cross sponsors a High School Scholarship Program for high school students to have an opportunity to help others.  The scholarship program is available for high schools who host at least one Red Cross blood drive during the calendar school year.  The more pints of blood collected, the more scholarship money the students are eligible to receive.  This money is awarded to be used for an educational scholarship at establishments of higher education for student.  Rylan Youngdale and Kagen Mathis were both awarded this scholarship.  Enough units of blood were collected for each to receive a $250 scholarship.  Thank you to the students of Southland, teachers, parents, friends, and people in the community for supporting the blood drive.

There still remains a critical blood shortage.  At times, blood and platelets are being distributed to hospitals faster than donations are coming in, which impacts the ability to rebuild the blood supply.  The Red Cross Urges eligible donors to give now to help ensure blood is available to those in need.
