The Southland Academy fourth grade students entered the My Place Project sponsored by the Americus Town Committee of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the state of Georgia. The purpose of the project is to instill in each student a sense of pride and to understand and appreciate where they fit into their homes, school, community, state, and world. The theme of this year's project was the song, "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing." By participating in the design and completion of the project, the students have gained insight into their own lives by researching, brainstorming, communicating, and understanding the idea that they have a connection not only to their classmates and families but also to many other parts of the city, state, country, and world. Each of the students has a more thorough appreciation for their places and their purposes in the world.  Southland Academy appreciates the commitment and dedication towards education that the Americus Town Committee of the National Society of the Colonial Dames has for the youth in our community.
