When citric acid and baking soda react with one another, they change chemically and form sodium ions, citric acid ions, carbon dioxide gas, and water. The reaction caused a fizz as the ingredients combined. Carbon dioxide gas is a normal component in our air. The students painted with baking soda, citric acid, and food coloring.
