Students learned about density by adding food coloring (diluted in water) into a bottle partially filled with baby oil. Students observed how oil and water would not mix due to molecular structure and that the oil floats around in the water because oil is less dense than water. The food coloring helped make it easier to see the separation of the oil from the water. Students enjoyed experimenting with different colors and creating interesting Lava Lamp Bottles!
