Each year in observance of Georgia Arbor Day, the first graders at Southland Academy traditionally plant a tree on the school's campus with the help from the Georgia Forestry Department. Following a program on the purpose of Arbor Day and the value of trees, Ranger Mark Shutters presented the children with a saw tooth oak and showed them the proper way to care for it.  The students are excited to watch the tree grow.
