Hello, my name is Sheila Kirkland. I am a former alumni of Southland Academy, graduating in 1975. I formally taught at Southland Academy from 1979--1988. I left Southland Academy and taught at Lee County Middle School for 14 years and at Schley Middle/High School for 15 years. I retired from the public school setting and returned to Southland Academy in 2018.
I have taught fifth thru eighth grades in English (Language Arts), history, reading, and math. I graduated from Georgia Southwestern with a Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, Specialist's Degree, and a Gifted Endorsement in middle grades education. Currently, I am teaching sophomore composition this year.
I am a die-hard, number 1 Alabama fan. I was born in Florida; however, I moved to Alabama and fell in love with Coach Bear Bryant. I love to garden, fish, and cheer for the Raiders and the Crimson Tide. I often attend the games in Tuscaloosa or tail-gate with friends and relatives at my house or at our Alabama home. Roll Tide!
I have four fur-babies that are my children. Two of the cats are 18 and 20 years old; the other two are adopted cats. I have one brother, who is two years and five minutes younger. I lost my dad in May of 2015; he was my rock! I care for my mother, who will be turning 86 in November.
I love Southland Academy, and I am proud to be a Raider!
