Teacher Biography

Lisa Hernandez is a retired public school educator with 32 years experience in teaching and administration. She taught 3rd and 4th grade for 16 years in Sumter County and Schley County and served as assistant principal for 16 years in Schley County.  She earned her Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from Georgia Southwestern State University and her Leadership Endorsement from Troy State University.  She has been married to Michael Hernandez, a Colonel with the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, for 32 years.  They have 2 daughters, Madison and Mallory, one son in law, David, and one grandson, Ezra, age 2.  Madison teachers Art at Southland and Mallory is a Park Guide with the Jimmy Carter National Historic Park.  Son-in-law David is a Firefighter with the Americus Fire Department.  In her spare time, Lisa enjoys reading, crafting, thrift shopping, and grandson, Ezra.  Lisa will be teaching 4th and 5th grade reading and is excited about joining the SAR family!
