Accelerated
Reader
Southland
is excited about using the Accelerated Reader program to
enhance its strong reading curriculum. Each
child selects a book on his or her reading level, reads it,
and takes a quiz on the computer to see how well he or she
comprehends. If the score is good, the student may
advance to a more difficult level. If the score is below
passing, the student is directed to more appropriate books
until such time as he or she is ready to advance. Every
book read will help increase reading skills and vocabulary
development.
The staff feels
that this program will challenge our students to develop a
love of reading and therefore excel in this most important
skill.

a Book
Are
you interested in donating books to our school library from
your family or dedicating a book(s) in honor of your child’s
birthday?
This
wish list contains books that the Elementary would love
to have (or have replacement copies of) on the shelves.
All of these books are Accelerated Reader books.
All
donated books will have a dedication label.
If you buy the books from Amazon.com,
please check the box that says to: Check
this box to see gift-wrap and gift-note options.
Don’t have
it gift-wrapped; just include a gift-note.
The gift-note
is free. Use
the gift-note option to let us know who the book(s) are from
and include any dedication instructions.
Many
books are available used and some of the books are only
available through used book dealers at Amazon.com
because they are out of print.
You can get a really great deal on these books.
If you choose to buy a used book, please pay close
attention to the stated condition of the book.
